Example Projects

  1. Start a campaign to replace light bulbs throughout your school with eco-friendly light bulbs and replace paper products with recycled content paper.
  2. Create a classroom energy team, conduct an energy audit of the school, and develop an energy conservation program.
  3. Convert school vehicles to biodiesel or an alternative fuel.
  4. Implement a commute program that includes alternative modes of transportation (e.g., bikes, walking, mass transit, carpooling, etc.).
  5. Create a school garden and grow your own food to use in the cafeteria, share among classmates, or help others (e.g., food bank, shelter, local restaurant, etc.).
  6. Educate other students, teachers, or your community about the actions they can take to limit their environmental impacts. Develop a website, conduct an assembly, prepare educational materials, write articles for your school or local newspaper, etc.
  7. Conserve water throughout the school. Look for ways to improve water use in the cafeteria, restrooms, irrigation, stormwater, etc.
  8. Set up a recycling or waste diversion program, create awareness, and save the school money! Use any money from materials collected to fund a new program or support the school.
  9. Work with cafeteria staff to serve organic food, save energy, conserve water, compost food scraps, etc.
  10. Install a green roof, a wind turbine, solar panels, or a playground (using reclaimed materials).
